Honestly, I never thought I would be participating in so many runs this year. Ok, actually 3 to date - it's not alot so to speak, but I think I've never run so much in my life! Yes, it's always in my new year resolutions that I wanna conquer a run one day, but it's always just words. This year, finally I saw myself running!
It started when my bro and I saw the ad for Race Against Cancer 2013. Without hesitation, we signed up - part of it was for our grandma who was and is still fighting hard against her cancerous cells. Being our first 10km run ever, waking up at 5am was torturous for us. I even abstained myself from alcohol for the whole week before the run, just so that my body is cleansed and running in its "top form".
The run was, shagggg beyong words. For me, it was totally mind over body. I felt my body giving way already, esp my poor feet which blisters and water bubbles were already forming. Blame it on the shoes - I kept whining. Nevertheless, we pressed on, and boy - can you imagine the feeling when I crossed the finishing line! Grabbed my much-needed drinks and yakult, I collapsed on the grass. Pheww.
Although tiring, I must say, I feel damn proud that I'm finally a finisher of a 10km run!!! :)))
It didn't end at Race Against Cancer 2013. My bro and I moved on to another 10km run by NUS - RUN NUS 2013. Another torturous ordeal waking up at 5am. This run at NUS totally worn me out. I nearly gave up halfway through the run! The run consisted of 6-7 up slopes (and down slopes). Initially I still managed to cope with the first 2 up slopes. But subsequently, my mind just shut down when I approach another slope, never mind the level of elevation. Even the slightest elevation was unbearable to walk, let alone jog up! Argh. Again, my feet were already filled with blisters. My face was over exposed by the morning sun. Argh. Still, I pressed on, just so that I didn't want to give up just like that! Yays, another accomplishment.
Another 10km run at Safra Bay Run 2013. After my first run at RAC 2013, I realized that I have a few other friends who are also in this running frenzy! Yays.
Coincidentally, Kelvin also participated in this run. Scheduled to meet him at the starting line for a snap. Heh. He was nice to match my slower pace all the way till the 8km mark before he sprinted the last 2km towards the finishing line.
With that, yups, thats my first 3 runs of the year! I've got one more 10km with my two brothers in ECP on 15th Sept - and I'm really looking forward to it because it's the first time that the 3 siblings are running together and I've always loved family bonding time!
The next run up is *ahem* a 21km Standard Charted Run on 1st Dec with Kelvin. Another great milestone challenged. Not sure if I can do it, but never try - never know.
Mind over body, I can do it!
